Sorry -- I've been too busy to respond to this until now.
The 2.35:1 format has become closer to 2.4:1 now. There most definitely
IS such a format. It is the latest version of what was originally
called CinemaScope. It is normally created with a 2:1-squeeze
anamorphic lens, not cropping.
