So what should exist Bert?
Really, Craig?
What should exist is device makers that know how to design devices compatible
with the streams already provided by the content owners, using widely
available standards.
That is not an issue here, although its a bit premature to make any claims, as
the new 4K version of Apple TV will not be introduced until September 12th. The
rumors are that it will use h.265 compression and support HDR and WCG. We will
need to see the actual specs, but Apple has been supporting industry standards
for video streaming since they introduced their first streaming products.
The only issue here is the price.
Gee, Craig. Does LG or Samsung have to go, hat in hand, to ABC, CBS, NBC,
Fox, PBS, etc., to get special favors from them, in order to be able to
market a viable TV set that people might want? You must wonder how they have
achieved this feat?
Totally irrelevant. But they too must negotiate with content providers if they
provide apps as part of their "Smart TV" features.
If a device maker creates a device that REQUIRES collusion to work, REQUIRES
special favors from the content owners, well then, get ready for the
consequences. If they are smart enough, they should predict that now they are
beholden to the content owners. And quit whining when the owners charge them
high rates.
Device makers are all using industry standards for their connected TV product.
That's the easy part. They ALL must negotiate with the intent owners to support
the apps that connect to the content owners servers. You continue to
mischaracterize this as collusion.
When a company sets up an online store to sell content, be it Apple, Amazon,
Google or Walmart, they must negotiate the terms with the content owners.
That is not collusion Bert., it is called a contract.
Regards
Craig
