No reason to assume the content owner would remain loyal to only a handful of incumbents MVPDs plus, perhaps, Apple behaving like another MVPD. The language in these articles sounds painfully like desperate attempts to retain outdated distribution models. But getting beyond the words to the actual trends that seem to be emerging, I think you get a different picture. What does the content owner have to gain by limiting its distribution options? Nothing. As long as all their options give the content owner the same amount per subscriber per month, content owners can only gain if they get more subscribers via more varied distribution pipes.
