I thought for sure Craig would have no problem with this, although ooops,
Apple is on the receiving end. Amazon is using exactly the same tactics as
Apple. This is an example of the shenanigans these "non-standard
app-dependent" limited-use boxes invite, which Craig has consistently
supported.

Apple is not shutting down Amazon. They never have.

Amazon has a long history of working around Apple's ecosystem, not to mention
going to the Feds to protect its E-book monopoly. You can read Amazon E-books
with the iOS Kindle App, but you cannot buy books from Amazon with the App.

Apple's iTunes music/TV/movie ecosystem is cross platform. They just
launched Apple Music on Android.

But the battle for the big screen in the family room has just begun, and it
looks like Apple and Amazon may dominate the new TV landscape. It's no surprise
that Amazon is trying to advantage its ecosystem. But everyone wants to access
Apple's customer base, because that's where the money is. Trouble is, like
Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, Apple wants to monetize its ecosystem.

You are critical of the tactics Apple uses, while you give the others a pass.
No problem with that. I rather enjoy the many ways that Apple curates its
ecosystem, not to mention the quality of the devices and user experience.

Apparently I'm not alone.

Here's an in-depth look at what is going on. Note how the problem is caused
entirely by the need for device makers to beg to collude with the content
owners, with these non-standard platforms. This problem should not exist. Not
even the potential should exist. And it wouldn't, if Apple and Google just
supported the standard standards.

In this case the content owners are sitting on the sidelines. This is ALL on
Amazon.

Craig
