It wasn't people's computers. We have a vacation property located in Claire, Michigan, which is about 100 miles north of the transmitter site for a couple of the UHF broadcasters serving the Lansing, MI market, operating on UHF 47 and 53.. Most summer mornings until about 8am or so I can usually get crystal clear NTSC from those stations, as well as from the NTSC of my own station's transmitter located a bit closer at 75 miles. As the sun rises the signals fade until they disappear for the day. Atmospheric ducting is a wonderful thing, but unfortunately it cannot be counted on as a business model.
