The article says that AT&T will be starting "field trial of 5G technologies to
fixed locations" this year. Hardly deploying 5G. Testing technologies means
testing individual components of the standard, e.g. components that AT&T has
been working on.
The article further says that the first phase of 5G standards should be ready
by 2018, at which point AT&T would upgrade their test setup.

This is the way a reasonable standards process is SUPPOSED to work, Craig. Even
though I fully expect that 5G will be just as artificially separated into
separate enclaves as 2G-4G have been.
