NEW YORK/LOS ANGELES, May 18 (Reuters) - The ABC television
network's new management team, desperate for some hits, is
going for fewer laughs next season while putting more emphasis
on the quest for its first successful drama in three years.

ABC, trailing its three major network rivals in viewer
ratings and dragging down the share price of corporate parent
The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE:DIS), unveiled a fall prime-time lineup
on Tuesday that includes just two new sitcoms, four fresh
dramas and two reality shows.

On the drama front, ABC will launch four new shows in the
fall, including David E. Kelly's "The Practice: Fleet Street,"
the successor series to his long-running legal hit, with James
Spader taking his role on the old show onto the spinoff.

The other dramas include "Desperate Housewives," from the
producers of "Melrose Place" teen drama "Life As We Know It"
and "Lost," an action adventure series.

The network will add Steven Bochco's "Blind Justice" later
in the season after the conclusion of "NYPD Blue." ABC also set
aside private investigator tale "Eyes" and hospital drama
"Grey's Anatomy" for mid-season runs.
