Richard;

Then, we'll have the "how much better analog was" for years.

Analog was better because it was easy to control the message when there were only 3-4 networks that were beholden to the politicians for their little oligopoly, and everyone sat down in the evening for their dose of Soma.

The politicians have matured as well. They only got limited exposure with the old analog system:

A few sound bytes on the evening news

Meet the Press

60 Minutes

Then Uncle Ted changed everything - The Government News Network (CNN) became a fixture in DC; then MSNBC and Fox. Now there are vast opportunities for the politicians to get TV exposure.

From the politician's point of view, the only thing better than Free TV is keeping control over paid TV - these guys actually have money to contribute to campaigns. Please note the influence of Hollywood money and image creation skills on recent campaigns.

The old saw was that all politics are local...

Not anymore. Now politics are going global!

"People of Berlin, people of the world, this is our moment. This is our time,"

        Barak Obama
