The best place for the RF amplifier and first mixer is at the antenna, with
an intermediate-frequency signal coming down to the receiver in one channel
so thedown lead can be properly terminated to avoid reflections, a major
cause of multipath.  The IF signal can be located in a cable-only channel.
See my published US patent application 2003-0007103 at the patent office
site.  Nobody manufactures such a unit at present or plans to, in part due
to FCC tuner requirements.
