Assuming this is true, who knows if it's going
to matter now? Depends what the next FCC Commish
is going to do about the 2006 NTSC shutoff. If
it gets extended for sure, and the broadcasters
continue to support retention of NTSC, the
pressure to manufacture STBs would be off.

Aside from that, though, is LG limiting the
OEMs to whom it is providing its chip? I don't
understand why someone in his garage couldn't
just build STBs with LG's chip and rake in a
healthy profit (being only slightly simplistic).
This only makes sense if LG makes OEMs agree
*not* to use their chip in stand-alone STBs
before selling them the 5th gen chips.
