Is this on their DVD players?  There's no such stretch on their TVs.
Toshiba widescreen TVs offer:

TheaterWide1: minor vertical 'zoom' plus non-linear horizontal stretch
TheaterWide2: standard 25% vertical & horizontal zoom
TheaterWide3: moderate vertical 'zoom' plus non-linear horizontal stretch
Full: 25% linear horizontal stretch
