From which I quote:

"Receivers said to be able to be sold for $50 were recently
demonstrated to Congress, but Schubin notes that their
antennas were in a window. He said that several receivers
tested at his Manhattan apartment got good reception with a
window antenna, but they couldn't get reception even a few
feet inside the room. He added that the rabbit ears on his
TV pick up analog signals there just fine."

But they failed to include that one receiver anyway, the LG,
did manage to pick up the DTT signal from the top of the
set, in Mark's apartment.

Why different antenna placements were not used in the demo
to Congress is something that would be nice to know. For
example, did LG now cut corners on its receiver too? Or
was this just a face-saving technique for other brands? We
don't know.

Of course, no matter what the results are in any given
location, there's no denying that the digital cliff will
continue to exist. Ultimately, it's hard to beat analog if
you want graceful degradation. I'm not sure what an ultimate
test to declare "DTT is ready for hurricanes" would consist
of.
