Monty Solomon posted: ----------------------- by Geoffrey Morrison October 8, 2012 There still seems to be some confusion about the difference between 1080i and 1080p. Both are 1,920x1,080-pixel resolution. Both have 2,073,600 pixels. From one perspective, 1080i is actually greater than Blu-ray. And, you can't even get a full 1080p/60 source other than a PC, camcorder, or some still cameras that shoot video. True, 1080i and 1080p aren't the same thing, but they are the same resolution. Let the argument commence... ... http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7-57524867-221/1080i-and-1080p-are-the-same-resolution/ ----------------------- Wow, this old topic again. If you take a look at the two elephant pictures, I mean the real ones and not his exaggerated artifacts one, it's pretty obvious that the cameraman was panning the camera to follow the elephant. So in both of them, the elephant seems to be quite sharp. But then if you look at the background, the leaves are all blurry in the interlaced picture. What he ignores is the vertical resolution filtering that has to be done, to reduce twitter. Isn't this done at the source end? If yes, then this is why 1080i is NOT equal to 1080p. The vertical res is compromised.
