not hunted in a couple of states if my memory serves me right (and Oregon
may be one of them, but I might be wrong about that).
Much to my astonishment, when I was a grad student at Univ of Wisconsin
Madison, I once picked up a large coffee table book on Mourning Doves (who
knew that that much information was available on Mourning Doves). I flipped
the book open and there in front of me was a graph of how many Doves were
harvest every year in the US. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe
the peak harvest was 40 million. For some reason that number seems
ridiculously huge, so I might be way off by a magnitude, but the bottom line
is that this is one of the most hunted species in the US.
