Hi -
I did a little birding around Newport this morning, partly with Chuck Philo.
Weather was mostly rainy, varyinf from light drizzle to heavy showers with
southerly winds - temperatures above 50.
Highlights:
2 Long-tailed Ducks off the end of Ferry Slip Road ( between the OSU and NOAA
docks). One was dark and looked like a female. The other had a mostly white
head and even pointed plumelike back feathers, but had a completely dark bill.
1 bedraggled Merlin posed for close photos. It was so wet that the feathers
above its eyes were matted into cartoonish eyebrows.
A humongous flock of pine Siskins near the International Terminal of the Port
eating Teasel seeds.
