More bad news – it appears the suspicions about the premature split of
“Western” Flycatcher were correct and that there is now data confirming that
Pacific-slope and Cordilleran Flycatchers are a single species. Arch McCallum
helped contribute to this discovery. The good news, though, is that in
performing DNA analysis of the North American empids, they have discovered that
Dusky Flycatcher is actually three species – the Dusky Flycatcher of the Rocky
Mountains, the Sooty Flycatcher of the Cascades/Sierras and the Pallid
Flycatcher of the southwestern mountains.

Pallid Fly at Malheur this spring.
