I don't bird in Lane County often, so not sure if any of these are
post-worthy.........
I was walking the BPA power line corridor (for work), starting at the power
sub-station off Nielson Rd, just south of hwy.126, and just east of Coyote
Creek.
Across about 4 miles of walking (west from sub-station) I counted 6 WESTERN
KINGBIRDS, flycatching from fences and power lines. Also, I was amazed to
hear EVENING GROSBEAKS calling almost the entire day, from at least 15
distinct flocks/locations across the 4 miles.
Near sunset, I walked out into Fern Ridge Lake from the end of Royal Rd and
found 2 AMERICAN AVOCETS foraging at close range. With the evening sun on
them, these birds are beyond words!
Also, numerous YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were on territory, PURPLE
MARTINS are on nest boxes, and there were three different groups of
AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, 24 birds total. I counted 6 distinct pumping
AMERICAN BITTERNS just in the short distance I walked.
Happy Spring!
