Columbia Estuary Report - 4/11/2015

The big news today (I guess) would be the likely ICELAND GULL seen
this morning at Hammond Boat Basin. The "Color the Coast" run for
autism may have scared it off by late morning...

I saw my first of the season BROWN PELICANS today off the South
Jetty of the Columbia River. There were at least 3000 SOOTY SHEARWATERS
off the end of the jetty. I also saw some small terns which went on to
the day list as COMMON/ARCTIC. There were also at least 20 BALD EAGLES
between the South Jetty river beach and Trestle Bay, all age classes.

There were about 90 ALEUTIAN GEESE and 2000 CACKLING GEESE at Wireless
Rd this afternoon.

Other new arrivals this week include BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER and
HERMIT WARBLER. Those who want to have an argument about the earliness
of the Hermit Warbler are invited to examine the sonogram at:

The Astoria NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was still being seen as of Thursday.
I don't know if anyone has gone looking since then.
