Good morning OBE Executive.
I have spoken to Gary regarding his conduct at yesterday's meeting. He is
travelling to Chilliwack for Lasik eye surgery and could not meet in person.
The interview was done by phone. Gary's critical reflection of the breach
of ethics was self-evident and self-evaluated. Gary emphasised he has a
history of using inappropriate language and behavior at times, and is
addressing this very issue at Bolt Security, and at OBE from now on. Gary
declared he was over tired and stressed from his resent business merger and
apologized for the incident.
Due to the surgery, Gary may not be available for his apology to the OBE
membership this Wednesday, however will make his best effort to be there.
His contingency plan is to write the apology for me to read for him.
I believe Gary to be sincere with his reflection of the breach of ethics,
and is trying to change his attitude to be more professional with his public
speaking and interaction skills.
I will apologize to the guests in attendance at our meeting for our members
ethical behavior on behalf of OBE.
Regards, Gord Brown
Co-Chair OBE

Good morning OBE Executive. We have received a formal complaint from one of
our members regarding a breach of our membership code of ethics. Thank you
for your emails pertaining to this issue. Dave and I have discussed it last
evening and I will deal with it today. Those Executive members not in
attendance, the breach was inappropriate language, conduct, and demeaning
remarks from Gary Gylytiuk. I will inform you of the outcome after my
meeting with Gary.
Sincerely, Gord Brown

I was not there. I don't exactly know what happened. In the context of
principle I will add my two cents.
Personally I think a phone call is better when offense is a a possibility
and not a certainly. Written emails of apology lend a permanence to the
record of the offense and a presumption of offense to the action - one that
may or may not have been actually perceived as offensive.
I know Gary well enough to forgive his occasional off color comments. He has
so many great qualities , including be willing to apologize which he has
done before when he went over the line. A verbal apology for a verbal gaffe
is most fitting in my opinion.
Thanks
Lana

Hello,
I think a note from the OBE executive to our Guests would be in order,
Perhaps with an invite to get to know us at the BBQ?? I doubt they would be
able to make it on short notice regardless. I don't know that having Garry
write it is necessary. Its understandable in my opinion that he is hurting
and his attempt at humor to cover his grief was off the mark. I have fairly
thick skin though and am not easily offended. I don't believe that
reprimanding him would have the desired effect and probably result in more
hard feelings and perhaps loss of a long time member. I imagine Gary is
having second thoughts about his comments and will probably apologize to the
group especially if he realises his comments were inappropriate..
I believe a casual recommendation to Gary from Dave and, or Gord would be
the best way to move forward on this and try not to make a big deal of it.
Just my thoughts,
Jerry Mugridge

I think that's a good idea Mary, I guess I would like to know how the
executive would like to handle this, as I said, I think Gord and I should
talk to him too, but whatever you all wish is fine with me. But I agree with
Mary the guests should be talked to also.

Thanks. I'm wondering about writing the guests, or calling them to
