Turns out there is some conflict of interest between the proposed brief for
the BCAA and the brief for Dynamic Auto and The Co-Operators to degree.
At first I spoke to Morris. He was initially ok with the brief Jassie
proposed for "Roadside Assistance and Benefits of BCAA membership", so long
as she did not intend to promote insurance. It occurred to Morris that the
proposed brief was more of a conflict with Dynamic Auto. I responded that
it would be up to Ron to raise this concern if indeed he felt it was a
conflict.
Within minutes of my conversations with Morris I got a call from Ron. He
had just spoken to Morris and as expected felt that BCAA's brief posed a
conflict. Ron is a BCAA approved shop. He does work for BCAA and also sells
BCAA memberships from his shop. He feels that the BCAA membership is geared
to direct customers to the BCAA repair shop and thinks it will be
most likely that customers will be directed to the big new BCAA locations
for that work. He feels this will overstep his brief.
When I last spoke to Morris he said he was ok with the proposed brief of
BCAA. But that was before he knew there was a Westbank location. I heard
from Ron that Morris changed his mind once he knew there was a Westbank
BCAA.
Looks like this one will get sticky.
I am going to touch base with Jassie to let her know we are looking at a
potential conflict of interest here with the brief. Since this week is
special with the breakfast I think it would be ok for her to come again as
a guest - but not do her infomercial yet. At least not until we can sort
out a proposed brief that would be agreeable to all parties.
