Fully agree with that.

Do we just need someone to host a private listserv? I might be able to
do that...

FWIW, with my hosting contract I can create Mailman
<https://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/index.html> lists. I’m already
managing 15 of them for a NGO I’m supporting. I wouldn’t mind to manage an
additional one.

I submit that public history may kill the spirit of the list. Speaking for
myself, I wouldn't feel comfortable posting some questions on the list with
a public archive where I would gladly post those to the group if archives
were not public.

The important aspects of this change are as follows:

- more community control - the current GMail approach requires one of the
few with admin access to manually go in and add/remove/update email
addresses. We need more self-service.

- it needs to work for the ~50% of the group that don't want to use FB,
which would solve all this easily if that were acceptable to folks ;)

- I think there *is* a desire to be able to access historical threads,
just not by the general public!

I would doubt that a simple mail forward would give us what we need, but I
defer to the group for discussion.

Cheers

as dns – I can create mailforwards … maybe a mailforward is all we need (ex

Not sure about the limitations of this 😉

This is, indeed, the significant downside of this approach. If anyone
knows if there is a way to lockdown the messages then please let me know.

The Facebook Group wouldn't have had that problem... just sayin'!

For those not familiar with freelists (? anyone ?) there is an automatic
archive by month of all messages:
