We have the Cactus Sinks house wide now, in all med rooms, every OR suite and
Every Endo Suite and in the pharmacy. We have had no issues at all. Scott is
right, EXP takes care of the disposal of the cartridges.
In fact the NYDOH was here for an unannounced survey two weeks ago and they
were impressed with them.

EXP is one of their business partners and I had been questioned on this before
as well but was assured there are multiple NYS facilities utilizing and yes
they are approved for use in NYS. The disposal of the cartridges is where I
had most concern but the reverse distributor facilitates disposal and
documentation. Please advise if anyone has conflicting information.

We have deployed the Cactus Smartsinks in all acute units and when cartridges
become full utilize reverse distributor for final destruction.

Dear Directors of Pharmacy,

What are NYS hospitals doing to comply with the DEA Final Rule on the Disposal
of Controlled Substances stating that the flushing of waste narcotics down the
drain does not meet the non-retrievable standard? What drug disposal devices do
you utilize for wasting of controlled substances? Thank you in advance for your
input.

Sincerely,
Leila
