Good afternoon,
A member hospital would like to know if your institution dispenses melatonin
supplement as a formulary sleep agent? If NO, what sleep agent do you have on
formulary at your institution?
Background information: This member hospital does not encourage the use of
non-FDA approved supplements during hospitalization, however does have patients
coming in with melatonin listed as their home medications for sleep. In the
past, this member hospital has made a few exceptions to permit the use of
Herbal products, botanicals and other nutritional food supplements, and only if
the supplement was approved and rated by the Natural Medicines Brand
Evidence-based Rating (NMBER) in Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database.
