One option to tidy up the cabling is to send your stalk down to Gary and have him run the data cable up the inside of your stalk and terminate the ends with the appropriate connectors. And have some tails made up for the encoder end. He'll supply a female to female connector you Velcro onto the side of your rocker box. It really does tidy everything up nicely I think the whole thing cost me about $100.00 including postage. I've attached a couple of pics You'll have to watch those wheel burrow handles you'll be forever knocking your knees on them in the dark. Perhaps you could try getting those kiddies glow in the dark stars you can get for their bedroom and glue a couple to the ends of the handles. That will let you know where the handle ends are. The handle is a Rhino brand painting pole, only 400mm long but with a click-stop extender. The top is a paint brush holder with a plastic ball socket with a tightening screw to hold it at a better angle. The clips are new ones with tooth-like rollers that really grip the grooves of the pole, but the cables can be popped off and the unit removed for transport. The wheelbarrow handles were pained black 20mm steel sections from Bunnings, as were all the other bits. The axle is a length of threaded rod. It looks quite OK and should be good in practice. Cables are a bit messy, but I'll leave them loose for now. Taking off one spring means balance with the heavier Naglers becomes more of an issue away from the zenith, so I've butchered an old speaker for its magnet. Just need the cloud and rain to buzz off. How are you mounting the unit, are you going to build a stalk? I started making a bag for my truss poles, which I would love to finish but I've run out of thread. I've also been finishing (finally) my wheel burrow handles I use to move the 16" around the yard. Scopes are funny things it doesn't matter whether you buy one off the shelf or make it yourself, you'll always seem to need to tinker with it. I don't see any end to this rain before the moon comes back into play. The weather channel say's it is going to get worst over the next few days. I wonder how Glen is getting on down there at the IIS camp. I had a go a few nights ago, it seemed to work up until I got confused over the "direction sense" business. Gary sent a clearer method to get this sorted. The star align works fine and the thing should be OK - if this weather ever clears. _____ From: corona_australis@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx To: nswnra@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [nswnra] Re: 8th - 9th weekend get together Date: Fri, 8 Oct 2010 18:47:15 +1100 an = Argo Navis From: nswnra-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:nswnra-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Corona Australis Sent: Friday, 8 October 2010 18:43 To: nswnra@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [nswnra] 8th - 9th weekend get together Hey guys and gals Not looking too great eh' I think we're in for a wet weekend to go along with the last couple of weeks.
