Job Description
 

This advanced position is responsible for managing fundamental modeling of 
power generation dispatch, including the effects transmission systems have on 
generation; and using the results to forecast electricity prices for clients 
throughout DTE Energy Corp.  The process will include the use of probabilistic 
modeling techniques that evaluate diverse types of generating units, complex 
transmission systems, uncertain future characteristics, and real-world utility 
operating procedures. Reporting to the Director of Market Intelligence, work 
involves performing difficult and complex services requiring a high level of 
independent judgment, initiative and discretion. Work is mainly self-directed, 
with work results reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence

PRINICIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage the modeling and presentation of forecasted energy, capacity, and other 
power market related prices, including but not limited to environmental 
allowance and renewable market prices, ancillary service prices, and FTRs
Reconcile differences between modeled forecasts and forward and spot power 
prices
Develop market views for those markets of interest to, and impacting, DTE 
business units, including probabilistic distributions around the occurrence of 
key market drivers and impacts on forecasts
Support the valuation of assets of interest to DTE business units
Leads and directs the work of others, including overall performance management
Performs all other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university, in Engineering, 
Economics, Math or Computer Science (Master’s Degree preferred) with eight 
years experience to provide for the following: 
Experience in utility, IPP or energy consulting, with a focus on roles in 
resource planning, power market assessments and/or power price forecasting
Four years experience in electricity price forecast modeling using PROMOD or 
other dispatch models to value transmission rights, forward electricity market 
prices, generation and transmission flows and asset investment opportunities
Five years supervisory experience preferred
Strong background in computer use and programming languages, specifically VBA 
and/or SQL, and database manipulation tools
Demonstrated use of statistics to derive probabilistic distributions around key 
market drivers
Solid understanding of the fundamentals driving the electricity market; 
extensive knowledge of market trends, key players in the market and regulatory 
issues
Knowledge of Demand Side Management (DSM) options to power production 
High personal and professional integrity, excellent business judgement, strong 
initiative and ability to gain buy-in
Possess strong verbal, written and presentation skills to communicate 
effectively with people at all levels
Possess strong problem solving skills that can generate the necessary 
procedures for resolution either by direction to others or by 
self-implementation
Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels
Proven ability to take projects from start to finish without significant 
supervision
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with 
supervisor, coworkers, management and internal and external contacts
Ability to function within a matrix organization in which functional and 
business leaders have equal authority within the organization and employees 
report to both a functional leader and a business leader
Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with both a functional 
and business leader, who collaborate on employee issues and decisions
