Hi all,
As a user of the touch, and previously a braille sense u2, I thought I would
add my thoughts. I received my touch in chugust last year. It did not get off
to a good start; it crashed constantly, and I had to send it back to hw. It was
the motherboard that was at fault.
Since getting my touch back though, it has worked bri'liantly. It has some
little quirks to it which I will explain shortly. First the good stuff:
The word processor is second to never. I can create documents easily with it,
which is very important to me, as I write posts for websites, and need to
create content. I cant do every thing, like insert immages etc, but I can write
my text and use google docs. I also use other third party apps, such as
tweeting for twiarter, and dropbox. Again, dropbox means I can transfer files
there to work on my ipad etc. Keymail (the built-in email software) is easy to
use, except you cant get threaded mail, and are unable to empty the trash.
Because I get many messages a day, this can create a problem. However, I am
using an asp called k9 mail, which has the features keymail lacks.
One huge annoyance for me is the inability to copy and paste. I can copy and
paste text from keyword, but an unable to copy text from a website and paste in
to an email or document. This is a real problem to me. Same with contacts.
There's no way to copy that info.
That's just some thoughts from my end. The braillesense was very very stable,
and did every thing as well as the touch.

Hello,
I did find the article that Greg wrote. The only reason I said
most of those things were from other people's many complaints
about the Touch such as in one person's example, five apps
crashed at the same time. But question, aren't the specs on the
Touch just a little outdated? I'm not trying to sound mean, but
Wifi standards from 2013, and it doesn't support 5G connectivity,
I don't think. But on the other hand, the Touch does have things
that Hims doesn't such as full nemeth support, a removable
battery, upgradable internal storage, and a camera in the center.
I also must give the Touch credit where credit is due, from what
I heard, it has a much better TTS engine.
Thanks,
Zach

Hi Zack,
You are so wrong about the touch screen on the touch.
The polaris needs a touch hscreen to be approved by google.
There are some many things missing from the Polaris, if you could
only see
Greg Stilson document in the comparison on both android tablets,
you would
not even pick the Polaris!
No removable battery, no removable internal memory, no adding
more internal
memory like 128 GB for the touch offers, camera not even cnetered
no glash,
I and others want to b in the sighted world not in the blind
world!
Theh 7 inchh scrren offers fellow friends, family and IT personal
on the job
or at school to assist in customizing the touch to the network at
school or
work.
You are so brainwashed about HIMS products!
Good luck with the failed Polaris!!!

Roger

My opinion, if some sighted person wanted access to a screen,
then they should bring their own screen to hok it up too, no
offense. And Android gestures on the Touch? From what I heard,
forget it.
Thanks,
Zach

In case a sighted person needed to look at your touch for some
reason.
Also a person who is familiar with android gestures could use the
touch stream like an android device.<div

I may not like the touch for reasons of my own, but I'd still
take the
touch over the polaris. I heard a presentation on the polaris
and
thought the device wasn't that good. Just because it runs a
newer
version of android doesn't mean its better. I don't like that
the
polaris doesn't have any kind of visual screen. Also, for me,
the
polaris had way to many buttons on it. Also, from the
presentation I
heard, the voice on the device sounded like a piece of crap.
The nice
thing about the touch, were the voices on it were very clear, it
could
connect to wifi extremely fast. I had no problems with the
processor
on the touch, I was just upset that I couldn't install certain
apps.
Even though I may return my touch, doesn't mean I won't be
interested
in hearing any new updates that will be coming along. I'm not
exactly
sure even if I will return the touch. I'm just considering it.
There
are several apps that work very well on the touch. I like using
Skype
on the device and pandora, and youtube. Reading bookshare books
also
works very well. The braille display is great.<div

Hello Josh,
I thought you said, on a different email list, that you were
going to return the Touch because you thought it sucked. I was
actually thinking about getting a BrailleSense Polaris, which is
coming out later next month, with much better hardware.
Thanks,
Zach

I would not get A B2G at all. The touch is a much better
device.
I
have only had my touch a short time, but it really works well.
It
connects to wifi extremely quickly, and I can use apps like
pandora,
skype, and youtube. I have heard from people who have had a
b2gg,
but the device isn't google certified yet. I'd go with the
touch.<div
