I don't have anything as glorious as rose-breasted grosbeaks to report but
after the soaking rains of the last few days we've had a few shorebirds in
the very wet fields bordering our driveway. This morning there were 32
semi-palmated plovers, 9 least sandpipers, 2 pectoral sandpipers, three
greater yellowlegs, 2 lesser yellowlegs, 2 pectoral sandpipers and one
spotted sandpiper.
For what it's worth, May 2 through 10 is the range of dates for
black-necked stilts around here. We only get them in years in which
standing water persists into early May. This year certainly qualifies, so
keep your eyes open and your bins handy.
