I am on the immature Male Summer Tanager side of identification.  The red
tail would essentially remove females from consideration, which are
yellowish green, no hint of red.  This leaves only males to consider, since
it is not full blown red, that leaves me with Juvenile Male.

I don't see very many in my yard, although they are around from time
to time.
