BIRD WALK SATURDAY, MAY 4 ON PIANKATANK The Middle Peninsula Bird Club and the Northern Neck Audubon Society are conducting a bird walk on Saturday, May 5 at 8:00 a.m. at Holland Point on the Piankatank River. This property is on the south bank of the Piankatank River in Mathews County. From Middlesex County, take Route 3 South and cross the Twigg’s Ferry Bridge. At the intersection of Routes 3 and 198, turn right onto Buckley Hall Road. Go 1.9 miles (staying on Route 198). Turn right on Holland Point Road and go to the end. Meet at the barn which is 1/2 mile past Wading Creek Road. This is a beautiful property with varied habitat. There are fields, woods, a high river bank, sandy beaches, a wetland, and a ravine leading to the dock Possible sightings include owls, hawks, bald eagles, sparrows, gulls, terns, woodpeckers, brown thrashers and hermit thrushes. On a walk in January, a Lincoln’s sparrow was sighted. There will be several pairs of loaner binoculars.
