BIRD WALK IN KILMARNOCK AT TOWN CENTRE PARK & BAYLOR PARK SATURDAY, MAY 26
On Saturday, May 26, the Northern Neck Audubon Society will conduct a bird walk
in Kilmarnock at the new Town Centre Park at 201 N. Main Street and Baylor Park
Nature Trail. Meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Town Centre Park. Baylor Park, a
Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail, is named for Dr. Richard Baylor, the
founder and devoted physician of the Northern Neck Free Health Clinic. This
lovely park includes a half mile long nature trail that follows along the
southern edge of Norris Pond and its vast non-tidal wetlands.
Located at 412 N Main Street on the northern edge of Kilmarnock on Route 3,
Baylor Park is 3/10ths of a mile past the stoplight at Old Fair Grounds Way,
the Wal-Mart shopping plaza. The entrance to the parking lot is on the right
just before you get to the bottom of the hill.
Among the possible sightings are Killdeer, Laughing Gulls, Mourning doves,
Chimney Swifts, Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, Eastern Blue Birds, Eastern
Kingbirds, Tufted Titmice, Carolina Chickadees, American Goldfinches, Chipping
Sparrows, Black-and-white, Northern Parula, Chestnut-sided and Yellow-throated
Warblers, Vireos, Acadian Flycatchers, Gnatcatchers, Summer and Scarlet
Tanagers, Belted Kingfishers, Woodpeckers, Red-shouldered Hawks, Osprey and
Bald Eagles.
