AUDUBON BIRD WALK JULY 25 IN REEDVILLE
On Monday, July 25, Frank Schaff and Jeff Wright of the Northern Neck Audubon
Society will conduct a bird walk through Reedville at the end of Rt 360 East.
Meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Reedville Fisherman's Museum at 504 Main Street.
The walk will meander through historic Reedville, down to the harbor and loop
around to the "Stack" park. This route is a part of the Potomac Heritage
National Scenic Trail.
Reedville is an historic fishing village founded in the 1860s by Elijah Reed
from Maine and is home to a thriving menhaden commercial fishing industry.
From the 1890s through the early 1900s, Reedville was the wealthiest town per
capita in the United States and for 125 years it was the number one port in the
country for tonnage of fish landed. Victorian mansions line Main Street which
is called "Millionaires" or "Captain's Row".
There will be several pairs of loaner binoculars available. Please call Frank
Schaff at 804-462-0084 to let him know that you are coming in case the walk is
cancelled.
