A service of the Northern Neck Audubon Society--- sent along by Paula Hi all of you, friends of NPI-Shiloh School with special interest in birding, This is a very early "heads up" for a great program at Shiloh School on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 3 PM, "The Birds of Balls Neck" by Tom Saunders. Tom will show slides. No walks involved at this time. The program will last about an hour, with "recess" by sunset and hot cider. Dress warmly? Rain or shine.. As you know Shiloh is a one-room school, and has limited seating. Tom is very popular and an expert birder--come early for a seat, so you can't be turned away! This will be the school's first time to have electricity and a darkened room, for Tom's slides. In early November, please share this info with your groups (Audubon, Native Plant, Master Naturalists, preserve volunteer stewards...). In the meantime, Shiloh School has two other events: Oct. 16--John Wilson on history of the area, including Jesse Ball,duPont, and on Oct. 30, Caroll Throckmorton on history of pharmacy, both talks on Sundays at 3:00 PM. This info is being disseminated by the newspapers and the NPI newsletter. Everyone is invited to all programs. Education is NPI's reason for restoring Shiloh School; and, spring and fall are the best times to hold "school." This winter, in 2012, NPI will hold an outdoor walk in Balls Neck, visiting historic sites, walk led by June Hudnall Turnage who grew up at Harding's Wharf.
