This year has been a loss for our Audubon Chapter activities due to
COVID-19. The Chapter has had few programs and lesser bird walks but the
Board recently met and have made plans for the coming year so stay tuned for
2021 news while we respect COVID-19 protocols but look forward to
engagement.
Many of our NN Audubon members have participated in the Christmas Bird Count
in Northumberland-Lancaster Counties the past four years. We thank you!
This year's Count is taking place Tuesday, Dec. 15th but will be much
different due to COVID-19 as all COVID Protocols will be followed and we
will not be traveling in groups. We are still seeking participation, but it
must be done alone or in a family group. People can walk around their own
property or neighborhood or any natural area and record what they see. One
major prerequisite is that your bird watching, and recording must be done
within the 15-mile circle. All you need is to put on a hat (warmth), pocket
your gloves (warmth), grab binoculars and a bird book (to see and learn) and
invite the family to participate in a Christmas Bird Count! Become a part
of citizen science.
This will be the fifth year the Northern Neck Chapter of the National
Audubon Society sponsored the first Christmas Bird Count of its own covering
Northumberland and Lancaster Counties. Please join in!
