The Northern Neck Audubon Society sponsors Hickory Hollow Natural Area
Preserve. Please consider supporting this nature walk...
The Northern Neck Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society will
sponsor a field outing on Saturday May 25 from 10 a.m. to noon at
Hickory Hollow Natural Area Preserve in Lancaster County. Certified
Virginia Master Naturalist (NN Chapter), Ellis Squires, will explain
how the unique geology of Hickory Hollow allows some characteristic
"mountain plants" to thrive here in "disjunct populations."

Special attention will be given to the tall, stately Kentucky lady's
slipper orchid which should be in bloom and is found nowhere else in
Virginia. "This has the largest flowers of any lady's slipper," said
Squires. "One seen they are never forgotten."

Hickory Hollow is located just southeast of Lancaster Courthouse on
Rt. 604 (Regina Road), .3 miles from Rt. 3. All walks are weather
permitting. Call Paula Boundy at cell 804-436-4944 if any question
