A service of the Northern Neck Audubon Society---
Wow 50…and a Baltimore…haven’t seen them in years. I felt pretty good with my
33 on my property on Friday. Glad I did it then as its been much quieter the
last three days…too windy I guess. I have a lot of herons coming in early to
nest (I have a rookery in the marsh)…they are much earlier this year but then
my apricot, peach and nectarine trees are all budded out with color (decidedly
not good in February)…so things are ahead of schedule. Hopefully we won’t get
that late March snow or sleet. Happy birding.

This morning I joined the Middle Peninsula Bird Club on a bird walk down in
Mathews County. After the bird walk I wandered down to Mobjack Bay eBird
Hotspot and was excited to see a Baltimore Oriole, thankfully Mark Sopko was
able to get a few photos. Great way to spend the morning.
Today I recorded 50 Species in Mathews County and had my first sighting of a
Baltimore Oriole, ever.
Reports are coming in of migratory birds moving north. Keep a look out,
early spring is happening now.
