Dear Audubon Club members,
Due to computer problems, this is rather late of our wonderful birdwalk back on Feb. 2oth. First of all I would like to thank Maggie Gertz for helping to arrange our walk at the Kendale Farm in Champlain, Essex County. Our hosts, Hill and Alice Wellford were very gracious and Hill led the walk with Frank Schaff. The Wellford's spoiled us with delicious refreshments and opened their beautiful home to us. We had gorgeous weather with temperature reaching 64 degrees at 2:15 PM. The various habitats we visited at the farm enabled us to reach a total of 39 species! We had seventeen members on the walk.

The bird list is as follows: Tundra Swan, Canada Goose, Mallard, Gadwall, Bald Eagle, Cedar Waxwing, Red-winged Blackbird, Black Duck, Northern Harrier, Belted Kingfisher, Double-crested Cormorant, Red-breast6ed Merganser, Hooded Merganser, Northern Mockingbird, Turkey Vulture, Common Merganser, American Pipit, Pied-billed Grebe, Red-headed Woodpecker, Northern Cardinal, Blue Jay, Tufted Titmouse, White-breasted Nuthatch, Carolina Chickadee, American Robin, Black Vulture, Great Blue Heron, Ring-billed Gull, Northern Bobwhite, Forster's Tern, Common Grackle, White-throated Sparrow, American Goldfinch, House Finch, Dark-eyed Junco, Brown-headed Cowbird, Eastern Bluebird, Red-bellied Woodpecker and American Crow.

Ten of us met for a late lunch at Java Jack's in Tappahannock and a good time was had by all.

What a wonderful memory this will be of our February birdwalk of 2016!

                                Happy Birding,

                                Maryalyce J. Johnsen
P.S. Could Paul, Frank or Nancy let me know if this went through O.K.!!! Thanks! Mary
