BIRD WALK AT STRATFORD
HALL SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27

On Saturday, September 27, the Northern Neck Audubon Society
will conduct a bird walk led by Frank Schaff at Stratford Hall Plantation at
8:45 a.m. Stratford Hall, is the
birthplace of Robert E. Lee and home to four generations of the Lee family,
including Richard Henry Lee and Francis Lightfoot Lee, the only brothers to
sign the Declaration of Independence.

Stratford Hall, located in Westmoreland County, has a
magnificent setting atop a high bluff above the Potomac River. Encompassing a
total of 1,700 of its original
acres, the plantation is still managed as a farm today. The varied landscape
and more than three miles
of scenic nature trails lined with wildflowers provide countless viewing
opportunities for birding and wildlife enthusiasts. Among possible bird
sightings are migrating
warblers, great blue herons, grosbeaks, tanagers, turkey vultures, osprey, bald
eagles, red-tailed hawks and other raptors.

Directions are as follows:
From Kilmarnock, take Route 3 west approximately 48 miles. Turn right onto
Route 214 (Stratford Hall
Road). Go 1.2 miles and turn left onto Great
House Road. Take the first right to stay
on Great House Road and proceed to the Visitor’s Center.

From Warsaw, take Route 3 West 16.4 miles. Turn right onto Route 214
(Stratford Hall
Road). Go 1.2 miles and turn left onto
Great House Road. Take the first right
to stay on Great House Road and proceed to the Visitor’s Center. The address
for Stratford Hall for your GPS
or Google Maps is 483 Great House Road, Montross, VA.

There is a $5.00 entrance fee to Stratford Hall. Participants should meet at
