BIRD WALK MON, NOVEMBER 12, AT KENDALE FARM ON THE RAPPAHANNOCK
The Northern Neck Audubon Society will conduct a bird walk on Monday, November
12, at 9:00 am at Kendale Farm in Essex County. This beautiful farm, 16 miles
South of Port Royal and 16 miles North of Tappahannock, has fields, woods, salt
and fresh water marshes with frontage on Occupacia Creek and the Rappahannock
River directly opposite Fones Cliffs.
Possible sightings include Canada Geese, tundra swan, mallards, buffleheads,
mergansers and black ducks, wild turkeys, Northern harriers, bald eagles,
juncos, winter songbirds, saw-whet owls, an Eastern screech owl in a wood duck
box, and quail. On the walk last fall, the group was fortunate enough to see a
covey of common bobwhites being flushed and exploding into flight! At
Woodpecker Point, there are often sightings of pileated, downy, hairy,
red-bellied and red-headed woodpeckers.
The GPS address is 1909 Kendalls Road, Champlain, VA 22438.
