Dear NKG members,
The Geodesy Division within the European Geosciences Union is distributing two
awards (see the email below) and the deadline for nominations is approaching
(15th of June 2021)<https://www.egu.eu/user-area/nominations/>. We want to
encourage you to nominate excellent Early Career Scientists for the Geodesy
Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Award.
The Geodesy division takes pride in awarding the Vening Meinesz medal to
established scientists but also highly values the honouring of Early Career
Scientists for their work and the impact they have on the geodetic community
and beyond.
From the ECS perspective of the geodesy division team, this award is not just
about endorsing and praising researchers, it’s also a way to independently
confirm the quality of the researcher which is a valuable contribution to the
researcher’s CV. Such an award may give the researcher a competitive advantage
when applying for future positions, grants and other desired functions. This
matters in particular to ECS’s as they often find themselves at a point in
their career where they need to choose between staying in academia or making
the move to industry.
As a supervisor, mentor or colleague, nominating an ECS is a relatively
straightforward procedure, and when successful, is an excellent way to support
the career of the nominee. We therefore kindly ask you to reserve some time on
your agenda and nominate that ECS researcher you’re so proud of.
It only takes a half page nomination letter, nominations can be submitted here:
https://www.egu.eu/awards-medals/nominations/.
Kind regards,
Rebekka Steffen
(EGU Geodesy Division ECS Representative)

Subject: Reminder: EGU Geodesy award nominations
Dear geodesy colleagues,
I hope you have all recovered well from the two exciting weeks of vEGU21!
EGU activities continue throughout the year, and today I would like to draw
your attention to the nominations for the EGU Medals and Awards. In the Geodesy
Divsions these are the Vening-Meinesz Medal and the Outstanding Early Career
Scientist (ECS) Award. The nomination deadline for 2022 awards is June 15th,
2021!
All information on how the nomination works can be found here:
https://www.egu.eu/awards-medals/nominations/
Please also note the slides in the attachment, that were shown during the
Geodesy Divisions Meeting at the recent vEGU21.
Vening-Meinesz Medal:
*********************
The Vening-Meinesz Medal is awarded for "distinguished research in geodesy".
Please think about colleagues who might deserve this award!
Needed for nomination: 1 page nomination letter, CV of candidate (2 pages),2
pages selected bibliography, supporting letters (3-5)
Outstanding Early Career Scientist (ECS) Award:
****************************************
The ECS Award is dedicated to scientists up to 7 years after earning their last
degree (e.g. phd), but the time frame can be extended due to various reasons
(child care, illness,...., please see EGU nominations website for details).
There are so many great early career geodesists, please nominate them! This is
really important, because only if our division has enough nominations, we can
be sure that we will be allowed to award our own geodesy ECS award in the
upcoming years.
Needed for a nomination: 1/2 page nomination letter, CV of candidate (1 page)
and 1/2 page selected bibliography.
The geodesy division and the medal committees are very much looking forward to
receiving your nominations!
Please contact us at any time in case of questions!
Best regards,
Anntte Eicker
(EGU Geodesy Division President)
