Spiritual Competency Training in Mental Health (SCT-MH) is a multi-disciplinary
online program designed to train mental health providers in basic spiritual and
religious competencies. The goal of the program is to equip providers with
greater confidence and competence in helping clients with religious/spiritual
issues.
Who’s Giving the Training? Kenneth I. Pargament, Ph.D., Professor, Department
of Psychology at Bowling Green State University is offering the training to the
network. Dr. Pargament is also the author of the seminal work, Spiritually
Integrated Psychotherapy: Understanding and Addressing the Sacred
What Does the Training Cover? The modules cover a number of key topics:
* common stereotypes about religion/spirituality (RS);
* the diversity of RS expressions;
* why it is important to address RS in treatment;
* the importance of the therapist’s own RS attitudes, beliefs, and
practices;
* how to assess RS;
* how to help clients access RS resources, and how to respond to RS
problems that arise in treatment.
What Format is the Training in? The training is on-line and self paced. It
takes six to eight hours to complete, can be done on your own time, and
consists of a number of engaging resources and learning activities.
Who Can Take the Training? Mental health providers (MD, PhD, Masters level) of
all disciplines are welcome to participate. Free CE and CME credits are
available upon completion of the program. You have four weeks to complete the
program after you complete the pre-training assessment.
What’s the Difference Between this and the ATSIP Training currently being
offered by the Institute? Spiritual Competency Training in Mental Health
(SCT-MH) can be a very good introduction for therapists who are considering in
participating in future Advanced Training in Spiritually Integrated
Psychotherapy program offerings from the Institute.
If you are interested in participating, please email Dr. Michelle Pearce at
mpearce@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:mpearce@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> for further
information or go to this website for the eligibility screen:
http://bit.ly/SCTMH. Please feel free to share this posting with your ;
colleagues!
Thanks!
Doug.
