Dear
NJAMC members,
Please read the following
statement from our current president Sherritta Hughes. Thank you members and
Board of
NJMCA for attending the 1st NJMCA Board meeting. It was
interestingly tense, a move in the direction of change, and
a discerning moment for our division in terms of being set
up for a progressive year. At the meeting I learned that: 1.
The NJCA bylaws are clear and can be used as a support tool
for us to navigate 2.
There are more leader members who support change in the
executive committee of NJCA than those who oppose
it 3.
We will need to be more proactive and tuned in to our MCA
members and what is going on in NJCA in order to push the
multicultural counseling agenda of competency,
proficiency, advocacy , and effectiveness in clinical work
with all clients, students, supervisees, as educators,
and in specialized MH programs.
It
will also be important to stay abreast with the agenda that
I have set for this year. It is my goal to lead
us:1.
To to the continuation of an annual conference 2.
To build connections with other multicultural mental health
associations in the state of NJ3.
To initiate an annual multicultural counseling symposium,
whereby 3-4 amazing speakers engage members of the
profession, and counselors-in-training on what it means to
actively do the work of multicultural
counseling. 4.
To be regularly mentored by the national ACA Branch of
Multicultural Counseling and Development (AMCD)
Please reach out to me with
questions, comments, and concerns. And lets be uniform in
our efforts.
Thank you for all you
do,
Sherritta Hughes, Ph.D, LPC,
ACSNJMCA President
2018-2019"Its a right now
movement" (my slogan this year)
