Ed,

Apologies for the late response. To open the Address Book in Live Mail,
press CTRL-3.
To have your mail deleted after download, you need to change the default
behavior of Live Mail.
1. Select the Accounts tab in Live Mail.
2. Select the Properties ribbon item.
   A dialog box will open.
3. Press CTRL-TAB until you have selected the Advanced tab.
4. Tab down to the option -Leave a copy of messages on server-.
5. If this option is checked, the next two checkboxes are active.
These will delete your messages automatically after 15 days or when you
empty your Deleted Items folder, whichever comes first.
If the option is unchecked, messages will be deleted from the server
immediately after they are downloaded.
Lastly, Live Mail is offering a completions list for the name you have
typed, but JAWS is not speaking it, at least not v14.

Hope this helps some,

Paul

Subject: [nhab-tech] greetings from north carolina

Just a note that I am enjoying the weather here. Today it got into the low
60s. But yesterday we got a tornado warning, but while none did show up, the
Raleigh airport reported 110 MPH winds! And a few mornings ago it was only
11º
Below is an excerpt from the next issue of my personal newsletter, THE VIEW
FROM ENTROPY HALL. This was from #50 which will circulate in a month or so.
The whole newsletter is free, and if you have not been getting it and want
to, I will be glad to put you on the email list.

                                 ^^EMAIL AND PHONES

Wintering in Raleigh, N.C., I had to re-evaluate which services I can use.
My “Track cell phone will not work here by our apartment…no towers. I
have used the phone in many states in my travels, and this is the first
place it would not work at all. It did work at the local Embassy Suites
Hotel, about 20 miles away, where the local SF con was held. Since it would
not work by our apartment,it was not a reliable number for contacting us. We
had hoped to have calls to our NH land line forwarded, but we should have
done that before we had put it on hiatus. Next year we will know better. We
had to get a local land-line, number 919-977-6728, which I do not expect to
be saved for next year. .

For email, I use Outlook Express under Windows-xp on my desktop, and Live
Mail under Windows-7 on my laptop. I have Office-03 on both. I also put
G-mail under Thunderbird on the laptop. I had planned to read only
Roadrunner mail with Live Mail, and only G-mail under Thunderbird, to keep
the two mail streams separate. Unfortunately I have not managed to work
Thunderbird relying on my JAWS screen reader, so I have only been using
Roadrunner until I can get some lessons in Thunderbird back in NH.

Live mail seems to work very differently from Outlook Express. When oE
downloads a message, it gets copied onto my hard drive, and deleted from the
server. Near as I can tell, LM only establishes a link to the message on the
server, leaving it there. After I read and answer the message, when I
“delete it I only break the link, leaving it on the server. After a
while, Roadrunner bitches that my box is too full, and I have to get Sandy
to go to the website and delete my read mail. I am having other problems
with Live Mail, and will need more help when I get home. Back in Concord
there are three blind computer experts who know how to work in JAWS whom I
hope to consult. In OE, control-shift “b will bring up the address
book, but not in LM. In OE, when the curser is on an unopened message, I
can use the “applications button to put the sender’s eddress in an
address book, or to move or copy the letter to another location. In OE, when
I start to type an eddress into
the “to box, it guesses what I want, and fills in the rest, unless I
correct it. Again, not in LM.

Another problem with Windows-7 is hassles finding old files I want to
reopen. I keep getting a menu of three items named with strange letter
combinations. It takes much tabbing and arrowing in random directions until
I (sometimes) manage to find the file I am looking for.

Editing this ENTROPY on the laptop I run into another problem. When I want
to insert a word or sentence, I go to where I want to insert it, but
suddenly I find that I had inserted it several lines above where I wanted
it. I do not know what I did wrong when this happens.

Best, Ed Meskys
