Program Overview
WRI Indonesiaparticipates in an independent monitoring initiative, Pantau
Gambut, an onlineplatform that provides knowledge and learning about peatland
to enable ameaningful public participation in peatland restoration. The
objective of theplatform is to monitor the restoration commitments from both
public and privatesector in achieving the restoration targets. This platform
provides the factualportray of the progress of peatland restoration and
protection programs inIndonesia which visualize several key themes such as:
forest fire on peat,restoration infrastructures and the implementation of
moratorium on peatlandopening. In order to achieve better understanding,
communication plays criticalrole in translating field findings in a format that
is understood by laymen.Therefore, WRI Indonesia aims to enhance web-based
contents by hiring contenteditor to support WRI Indonesia in translating,
editing and other activities toproduce digestible content. Working with PG’s
team, contractor will distillPG’s research and ideas for non-specialist
adjusting PG’s tone of campaign. Results from contracted individuals must
beapproved by the Communications and Peatland restoration team at WRIIndonesia.

Job Responsibilities
Provide information, reports, and articles fromfield that should be in line
with WRI Indonesia’s focus and interest inpeatland restoration and protection
monitoring initiatives.

· Consultants are required to write opinion independently on behalf of
Local CSO’s director as representative of Pantau Gambut’s network in each
province.
· The theme of articles are peatland current issues in each province, based
on close coordination between consultants and Pantau Gambut’s network.
· Consultants are required to publish the op-ed article to their media
network on behalf of Pantau Gambut.
· Consultants may also be required to provide visual documentations to
support their articles

JobQualifications
· Localjournalist with wide journalism network based in West Kalimantan,
Papua, andWest Papua (WRI Indonesia will select one individual in each of the
provinces).
· Bachelordegree of Journalism, communications, broadcasting or others
relevant studies.
· Minimumof 3-5 years of experience and/or have passion in Indonesia’s
environmentalissues particularly peatland management.
· Experiencein writing investigation report is a plus.
· Familiaritywith digital journalism and web-based content which provide
expository writingto layman who have no prior knowledge with the subject.
· Familiaritywith local CSO activities in peatland related issues
include investigation andground checking.
· Strongwriting, communication skill and ability to dig into complex and
importantissues (demonstrated with a portfolio with examples of investigative
andbreaking news reporting)
· Knowledgeof digital camera, video, GPS and others field equipment
· Abilityto juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines as well as
ability to work bothindependently and collaboratively
Periodof Work
The duration of the service is 3 months from 1March 2020 to 31 May 2020 with
possibility of extension according toperformance evaluation. A detailed work
plan will be discussed with WRIIndonesia’s peatland restoration team following
signing of the engagementcontract.
Must have authorization to work in Indonesia tobe eligible for this position
Final candidates mightbe required to take a writing test and to produce two
writing samples whenneeded.
