*Short-term Lab Response Editor and Writer*
Palladium is appointed by USAID to manage USAID-funded Health technical
Assistance Project (BANTU), to support USAID Indonesia’s Country
Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS) by rapidly leveraging specialized
short and long-term technical assistance to USAID, USAID-funded programs;
the Government of Indonesia (GOI), and other organizations and agencies as
required.
We are currently seeking a short-term Lab Response Editor and Writer for
Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) unit.
*JOB SUMMARY:*
The USAID/Indonesia Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) program is looking
for a short-term Lab Response Editor and Writer to provide independent
analysis and leadership in the drafting of a series of four international,
peer-reviewed papers in English reviewing the Government of Indonesia’s
COVID-19 laboratory response and actions with the aim of sharing lessons
and best practices. The papers will cover four (4) COVID-19 themes
including: Laboratory network development, capacity and coordination;
Challenges in biosafety and biosecurity; Challenges in the variation of
Extraction and PCR Kits for testing; and The role of laboratories in
control of COVID-19 transmission in Indonesia. The individual will manage
and lead the drafting and finalization of working papers with various teams
determined by the Government of Indonesia (GOI) and USAID in coordination
with other stakeholders. S/he will work primarily with the Ministry of
Health Directorate General of Disease Control and Prevention, Agency for
Health Research and Development (LITBANGKES), the COVID-19 *SatGas*
(formerly *Gugus Tugas*) lab group/expert panel, USAID and US-CDC. The
consultant, when required, will visit laboratories to collect data and
information, and maintain data confidentiality according to relevant USAID
and GOI guidelines.
This short-term position is for an *Indonesian (local hire) *for a three
(3) month period with day-to-day technical guidance and leadership of the
Emerging Infectious Diseases Team Lead, USAID Office of Health.
*REQUIREMENTS:* Master’s or Doctoral degree in public health, veterinary,
science or related field (Doctoral degree is preferred); minimum 10 years
of experience working in public health laboratories; must have a proven
track record/experience and already published in international health,
medical and/or science journals; experience with writing technical
documents for broad audience, proven experience to quickly grasp and
communicate technical and scientific concepts to both experts and
non-experts, and able to take complex information and explain it in lay
terminology and be adept at researching, organizing, analysing and
explaining data; cannot be currently or previously a member of the GOI
COVID-19 or *Gugus Tugas* laboratory response teams to maintain
impartiality, objectivity and no potential conflict of interest; must be
able to work with GOI leadership and manage/motivate a broad network of
stakeholders and partners; excellent in MS Office software for data
processing and presenting and other mobile data collection platforms with
prior experience in carrying out surveys or conducting and presenting
qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis; a fast learner
on topics related to COVID-19 and laboratory practices and protocols of
GOI’s systems, challenges and opportunities of the lab sector in Indonesia
at the national and sub-national levels; excellent written and verbal
communication in English and Bahasa Indonesia are required; able to travel
out of town as needed.
