Global Green Growth Institute Internship Program
Application period for the program:
until 31st January 2021
Internship duration:
6 months (9:00 - 18:00 working days)
Based in Seoul, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is an
intergovernmental organization founded to support and promote a model of
economic growth known as "green growth", which targets key aspects of economic
performance such a poverty reduction, job creation, social inclusion, and
environmental sustainability. GGGI works with countries around the world,
building their capacity and working collaboratively on green growth policies
that can impact the lives of millions. The organization partners with
countries, multilateral institutions, government bodies, and private sector to
help build economies that grow strongly and are more efficient and sustainable
in the use of natural resources, less carbon intensive, and more resilient to
climate change.
The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is a financing mechanism of the United Nations
Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It is specifically established
to provide financial support so that countries like Indonesia can reach their
GHG emissions reduction targets. The GCF can provide financial support to
Indonesia by channeling funds to green projects and programs. Such projects can
be designed and submitted to the GCF through domestic and international
accredited entities, including from the private sector - if such projects align
with the country's related strategies, plans, and legislation. The main
communication channel between the GCF and countries is the nationally appointed
National Designated Authority (NDA), hosted by the Fiscal Policy Agency (FPA)
of the Ministry of Finance in Indonesia.
The FPA has selected GGGI as the Delivery Partner to implement the GCF
Readiness and Preparatory Support Programme Proposal ("the Readiness Project").
The Project aims to strengthen the institutional capacities of the NDA and
national actors, to build a pipeline of climate change projects and enhance
country ownership. The Readiness Program consists of a range of activities to
achieve four Readiness outcomes:
1. Development of an institutional capacity and coordination mechanisms to
govern and coordinate climate finance;
2. Stakeholder engagement relevant to country programming strengthened;
3. Direct access to climate finance strengthened; and
4. Climate finance mobilized.
The successful candidate will gain first-hand exposure to climate finance in
Indonesia, especially in its effort to mobilize GCF funding for climate change
projects. Details on the proposed assignments are provided in the following
sections.
