Dear PotentialBidders,
Nutrition International/NI (formerly The MicronutrientInitiative/MI) is
implementing MITRA Youth, a project supporting Weekly IronFolic Acid
Supplementation (WIFAS) for prevention and reduction of Iron DeficiencyAnaemia
(IDA) among school-going adolescent girls, in selected districts in
twoprovinces of Indonesia: East Java and East Nusa Tenggara (ENT). MITRA Youth
isfunded by Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Australia.
MITRA Youth is implemented in 10 districts in East Java and 10districts in ENT.
In 2018, NI conducted advocacy meeting at province anddistrict level to
sensitize the WIFAS program. The meeting at province levelwas attended by
stakeholders from health, education, religious office, socialwelfare from the
targeted districts. WIFAS program is mostly perceived as theresponsibility of
the Health Office, even though it should be also theresponsibilities of
Education, Religious Affairs and Social Welfare Offices. After the advocacy
meetings and capacity building supported by NI, theinvolvement of non-health
sectors were improved and districts have startedactivities to strengthen the
implementation of program.
March 2020, COVID-19 pandemic hits Indonesia among manycountries in the world.
As per October 8, 2020 there are 320,564 confirmedpositive cases with 244.060
people have recover and 11.580 people died ofCOVID-19 virus. Currently, many
provinces are still implementing large-scalesocial restriction policy to
minimize the spread of COVID-19 which results insignificant reduction on
domestic and international travel, bans on group andcrowd gatherings and the
closure of schools, factories, restaurants and publicspaces. Such measure
affected health services. According to recent onlinesurvey conducted by UNICEF
of more than 6,000 young Indonesians, nearly 90% ofgirls have stopped taking
iron tablet during the pandemic. The COVID-19pandemic is stopping essential
nutritional services for adolescent in Indonesiaand this has a major impact on
their nutritional status.
This is the last year of MITRA Youth project before it ends onMay 2021. To
better document project’s results and lessons learned, NI togetherwith SEAFAST
Center – IPB have conducted Endline Survey study and havefinalized its report
last October 2020. There are many key findings andrecommendations found from
the study that would improve implementation ofAnemia Prevention program among
adolescent in both East Java and East NusaTenggara.
Many achievements and improvements on WIFA program in East Javaand East Nusa
Tenggara attained throughout MITRA Youth project. Howeverpandemic situation
impacted a set back towards those achievements. Taken intoconsideration NI
together with PHO would like to ensure WIFA program issustainable despite the
pandemic circumstances.
Hence, in order to conduct advocacy meeting at provincial levelin East Java and
ENT, NI seeks support an event organizer/agency (EO) tofacilitate the
implementation of the advocacy meetings.
