NetCom Club Members:
Hello members! I would like to thank everyone that participated in the Sky
Engineering project. It was a tough project, but everyone did an
outstanding job. We had to work in a ceiling full of loose insulation,
which was no easy task (especially when it got really hot up there). The
PBX is now installed, and functioning properly. Once again -- thank you to
the members who braved tough working conditions to make the project a
success.
I also wanted to let everyone know that we will be starting work on a
project for the St. John Vianney School in Goodyear. The school is located
at 539 La Pasada Blvd (the nearest major cross-streets are Van Buren and
Dysart).
This project is fairly large, and will require a fair amount of work to
complete. We need to perform a complete computer and network inventory of
the campus. We will also be creating a network diagram. We are going to
install operating systems and other software on about 60 computers. We will
be segmenting their network, running a few drops, and configuring at least
one wireless access point. We also hope to setup a server, and possibly
implement Active Directory for user authentication.
Due to the large volume of work required (and to get as many people involved
as possible) we will be working on this project during the day, at night,
and on the weekends. The following is our tentative schedule for the rest
of this week:
Thursday, August 4: 6pm until ?
Friday, August 5: 4:30pm until ?
Saturday, August 6: 8am until ?
I will send out an e-mail each week that contains a project status update,
and a tentative work schedule.
We need all of the help that we get! I urge everyone to participate. You
do not have to work all of the available dates, nor do you have to stay the
entire time. Also, you do not have to be an expert in any particular area
of computing to help out with these projects. Projects like this one are
are an excellent opportunity to learn new things, practice skills learned in
class, and to help prepare for Senior Project. One of the best ways to
reinforce skills that you've learned is to teach those skills to someone
else.
If you are interested in participating (or would like more information),
please e-mail me at mannrem@xxxxxxxxxxxx When e-mailing me, please be sure
to include your Name, e-mail address, and phone number. I will try to
respond to all of the e-mails within 24 hours. If you do not receive a
response within that time frame, please send me another message.
With member participation and teamwork, I am sure that this project will be
a major success. As always, if you have any questions/comments/concerns,
please e-mail me or speak with me on campus.
