JAMISON: The Tea Party Has Gone Overboard By Jack Jamison Posted: 08/13/2011 10:00:24 AM PDT Paridise Post http://www.paradisepost.com/opinion/ci_18673715 . ." debt ceiling and the threat of default have become political bargaining chips in the debate over fiscal policy," S&P wrote in a press release announcing the downgrade.
.Referring specifically to the GOP's rejection of a balanced spending package that included both revenue increases and spending cuts, the agency said:
."It appears that for now, new revenues have dropped down on the menu of policy options" and stressed that the final deal only reinforced its belief that the Bush tax cuts would not expire at the end of 2012, "because the majority of Republicans in Congress continue to resist any measure that would raise revenues," according to the National Journal.
.Edmund Andrews concludes in the National Journal, "It's hard to read the S&P analysis as anything other than a blast at Republicans."
. snip .But Freedom Works, which helped found and shape the Tea Party movement, sees its campaign as the opening salvo in a long battle to secure a place for the Ryan plan in the 2012 debate and the legislative session that will begin in January 2013.
.Here's a refresher course on the GOP's (which is indistinguishable from the Tea Party these days) plan to end Medicare: The GOP could pass a bill to hand out potted plants to every American and call it Medicare, but it wouldn't be the same affordable package of guaranteed benefits that Americans have depended on for decades - and have been promised will be there in the decades to come. (ThinkProgress)
.House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) was accidentally honest during an interview with the Wall Street Journal. Cantor openly acknowledged that "promises have been made that, frankly, are not going to be kept for many."
.And the Wall Street Journal interview in which he said the GOP wants to" put people on notice that it is coming for their entitlements."
.The entitlements are - Social Security, Medicare, VA benefits, and retired military benefits - all things that the working class depends on.
