A. Invitation to Submit Conference Proposals to the Needs Assessment
TIG
Planning on attending Evaluation 2019? We invite you to submit an Evaluation
2019 conference proposal to the Needs Assessment TIG. This year’s conference
will be held in Minneapolis, MN, USA from November 11-16, 2019. The conference
theme is “Paths to the Future of Evaluation: Contribution, Leadership, Renewal”
which look for proposal to address the following four types of questions:
What frameworks, experiences, methods and practices best prepare us to address
key issues of our time—massive migration (and the economic and social
challenges that accompany it), climate change disasters, epidemic threats, and
shifts in resources through economic globalization. In what way do our
evaluations help our stakeholders understand the impact of these issues
locally, in every evaluation we undertake?
How do we innovate and adapt our thinking, methods and practices to ensure our
evaluations address the important societal challenges of today, and enable our
communities to have informed and productive conversations?
How do we ensure our evaluation practices “leave no one behind,” as promised by
150 countries committed to the SDGs – i.e., how do we promote equity, diversity
and the protection of human rights for all involved and affected by our
evaluations?
How do we bring leadership competence to our evaluations? How do we prepare
ourselves to be credible evaluators as we step into the controversial issues in
our society or manage the anxiety our presence may stir? How do we stay
independent and impartial, think calmly and creatively, act methodically and
insightfully, consult all sides, include members of marginalized communities,
and manage an evaluation that frames things systematically and provides
credible answers to the most important questions?
We encourage you to submit proposals address the conference theme. However, we
also welcome proposals on other topics related to NA. When crafting your
proposals for the NA TIG, we want to remind you of several things:
The proposal submission deadline is fast approaching! Proposals are due by
11:59 PM in the Eastern time zone on Monday, March 18, 2019.
Each person may appear on the conference program up to 2 times as a primary
author/presenter and up to 2 times as a discussant (not a main panelist).
Please consider these limits when submitting proposals for this, and all other,
TIGs.
When considering the format for your proposed session, PLEASE pay close
attention to the descriptions of session types, which can be found at:

B. Volunteer as a Proposal Reviewer
Please consider volunteering to serve as a peer-reviewer for our TIG. It is one
of the possible ways to be involved with the TIG. Last year, each reviewer was
assigned 4-5 abstracts (approximately 1 page each). Reviewing is easy. You read
the abstract, then rate each one according to standardized criteria. To
volunteer please either (1) reply to this email by March 18th or (2) select our
TIG as one for which you’d like to serve as a reviewer when you submit your own
proposal through the AEA website.
C. Generate Ideas for TIG Networking and Social Gatherings
We are very interested in developing conference networking and social exchanges
outside of the formal program, so we encourage you to communicate with us if
you have ideas about events or gatherings outside the conference that would
interest TIG members and bring them together.
D. Check out the AEA library
The AEA library is a great resource for work presented at previous conferences.
If you presented at Evaluation 2017, be sure you have submitted your
presentation to the library using the Participation menu Public ELibrary
<http://comm.eval.org/browse/communitylibraries>.
E. Check out our TIG Website and Listserv
The information in the call for proposals can always be found on the AEA
website, which is public, so you may invite colleagues outside of AEA to
participate in the conference too. http://comm.eval.org/needsassessment/home ;
<http://comm.eval.org/needsassessment/home> For practitioners, students,
researchers, and others who are interested in the topic of needs assessment
(including non-AEA members), we have created an email group (listserv). You
can post questions, share articles, and find experts by posting to this mailing
list. To Join, send an email to <needsassessment-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
<mailto:needsassessment-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>> with the subject line
"Subscribe".
We are looking forward to seeing you in Minneapolis, MN !
Sincerely,
Lisle
