01. URL XRAY. There are several services that take long URL (Web links) and
convert them to shorter ones. This one at http://urlxray.com/ lets you enter
the shortened URL and tells you, without actually visiting the site, the actual
URL it leads to. This could be useful if you suspect that a site is up to no
good and you don't actually want to visit it.

02. WOBZIP. Unzip a compressed file of up to 100 MB on the fly by either
browsing to the file or entering a URL. More than a dozen formats are
supported. Download free at http://www.wobzip.org/ .

03. WALNOTE at http://www.walnote.com provides a secure repository for your
notes. It requires a very sbort and simple - but free - registration to
establish your account.

I can't help you other than sympathize when your hard drive crashes and all
your important data is lost. I found a way to protect my stuff and it's
Simplicity with a capital S. I'd like to share the news with you, along with a
very special price for just a few more days. All the details are at

04. SPOON BROWSER SANDBOX at http://spoon.net/browsers/ lets you run all
popular Web browsers directly from the Web without installing them. All you
need to do is first install the Spoon browser plugin.

05. WORLD WIDE NOTEPAD is similar to the Windows NotePad we are familiar with,
but notable distinctions include an autotype feature that aids in typing
redundant phrases and a text to speech feature that reads aloud all text in the
open document. Download free at
http://programmingnet.weebly.com/world-wide-notepad.html .

06. COPY PATH TO CLIPBOARD. I can see where this one will be handy since it is
often difficult to find or remember where a file or folder has been tucked
away. This program adds a new command "Copy Path to Clipboard" to the right
click context menu. Clicking on that option then lets you paste the complete
file name or folder name wherever you need it. Download free at
http://stefan.bertels.org/en/clipboardpath .

I've been asked how I can continue to send out these tips for free. It's
because some loyal readers help defray server and other expenses with their
paid subscription to NNT Premium, just $12 a year. In return, they get 24
greatly expanded ad-free issues with many tips and features not included in
this free version. More details are at http://www.neatnettricks.com . Won't
you consider adding your support as well?

07. CLEANUP! removes temporary files that waste space and promises to make your
computer run more efficiently without the clutter. Download free at

08. GEETEEDEE. Another to-do manager (where do they get those names, anyway?),
GeeTeeDee lets you create timed tasks, group and customize them, and organize
them with drag and drop. Download free at http://codea-dev.com/gtd/ .

09. WINDOWS LAYOUT MANAGER, or WILMa for short, lets you fine tune your screen
by positioning it and managing its size and shape. More details and free
download is at http://www.stefandidak.com/ramble/windows-layout-manager/ .
